…not really, but close enough. There has been a lot of buzz lately about Disney’s new Keychest technology. What it basically hopes to do is change the way people watch movies. Rather than selling you a physical disc with a movie on it, this technology sells “licenses” like computer programs that authorize an owner to watch their favorite Disney features on the device of their choosing.
According to Variety:
With DVD sales declining and Blu-rays still trying to find a mass audience, studios are constantly searching for The Next Big Thing. The Mouse House thinks it may be Keychest, a system that will offer consumers access to movies anywhere, anytime.
You heard it: anytime, anywhere. So basically, you’ll be able to watch The Lion King on your television, your computer, your iPod, your mobile phone, your clock radio, your microwave or your Etch-a-Sketch.
