The hype is building for Disney’s upcoming ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ the Tim-Burton-directed 3D spectacle that hits theaters on March 5th. Little by little, we’ve been offered teaser trailers, assorted still photos and the occasional interview, and now the company has released two exclusive posters on Facebook. The posters (featured above) include gorgeous backdrops from Wonderland as well as images of Alice, the White Rabbit, the Red Queen, the White Queen, Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. You can view enlarged versions here and here.
More and more, companies are using social media to spread the word and build anticipation for new films: Facebook posters, Twitter updates, and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before the Mad Hatter starts picking up underage girls on MySpace.
Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is still a few months away from release, but fans are finally getting to catch a glimpse of the caterpillar character that, until recently, has been kept completely under wraps.
In an interview with MTV back in September, Tim Burton confessed that even he had not seen what the caterpillar looks like, but SlashFilm recently uncovered several magazine scans that wound up on Deviant Art, featuring various stills from the movie including one with the caterpillar (see image above). The images are presumed to have come from the official zine of Disney’s club D23, but this has not been confirmed.
The caterpillar is voiced by Alan Rickman, perhaps best known to young moviegoers as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series. Rickman also appeared in Burton’s ‘Sweeney Todd’ as the corrupt Judge Turpin. Incidentally, ‘Alice’ stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Timothy Spall also had starring roles in Sweeney Todd, so ‘Alice’ will be a reunion of sorts.
Disney has released the extended trailer for Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” and oh my God does it look amazing (click the strange rectangular box, above).
For those of you unfamiliar with the story, “Alice in Wonderland” is kind of like “The Wizard of Oz” on acid. Cheshire cats, white rabbits, mad hatters…it’s a disturbed, hallucinogenic fairy tale which can only be fully understood by those who have consumed excessive amounts of cleaning fluids. Add Tim Burton to that equation and you’ve got yourself one epic blockbuster. Johnny Depp looks awesome as the Mad Hatter, and the scenery is absolutely ridiculous. Check it out yourself.
