Disney Shows Tear Up the Nielsen Ratings

wizards

So the Nielsen ratings are in for the week…and as it turns out, Disney is kicking butt…

Here is the complete list, courtesy of the Associated Press:

1. NFL Football: N.Y. Jets vs. Miami (Monday, 8:30 p.m.), ESPN, 9.65 million homes, 13.13 million viewers.

2. MLB National League Championship Series: Philadelphia vs. L.A. Dodgers, Game 1 (Thursday, 7:59 p.m.), TBS, 4.93 million homes, 6.83 million viewers.

3. “Hannah Montana” (Sunday, 7:30 p.m.), Disney, 3.95 million homes, 5.71 million viewers.

4. MLB Division Series: Philadelphia vs. Colorado, Game 4 (Monday, 6 p.m.), TBS, 3.71 million homes, 5.2 million viewers.

5. “NCIS” (Wednesday, 8 p.m.), USA, 3.56 million homes, 4.87 million viewers.

6. MLB National League Championship Series: L.A. Dodgers vs. Philadelphia, Game 3 (Sunday, 8 p.m.), TBS, 3.45 million homes, 5.03 million viewers.

7. “WWE Raw” (Monday, 9 p.m.), USA, 3.41 million homes, 4.84 million viewers.

8. MLB National League Championship Series: Philadelphia vs. L.A. Dodgers, Game 2 (Friday, 4 p.m.), TBS, 3.34 million homes, 4.42 million viewers.

9. “WWE Raw” (Monday, 10 p.m.), USA, 3.27 million homes, 4.73 million viewers.

10. College Football: S. Carolina vs. Clemson (Saturday, 7:41 p.m.), ESPN, 3.26 million homes, 4.61 million viewers.

11. “Suite Life on Deck” (Friday, 8:30 p.m.), Disney, 3.18 million homes, 4.65 million viewers.

12. “ICarly” (Saturday, 8 p.m.), Nickelodeon, 3.11 million homes, 4.67 million viewers.

13. “Wizards of Waverly Place” (Friday, 8 p.m.), Disney, 3.07 million homes, 4.55 million viewers.

14. “NCIS” (Wednesday, 7 p.m.), USA, 2.995 million homes, 3.93 million viewers.

15. “Phineas and Ferb” (Friday, 9 p.m.), Disney, 2.990 million homes, 4.44 million viewers.

Notice that not one, not two, but FOUR shows in the top 15 are Disney Channel originals: Hannah Montana (#3), Suite Life on Deck (#11), Wizards of Waverly Place (#13), and Phineas & Ferb (#15).

There was a time when cable shows couldn’t even reach the Nielsen top 50, and now the Disney Channel is absolutely killing in the ratings.

Now if Hannah Montana could just learn how to throw a football, she would be #1 in a heartbeat.

Miley Cyrus Makes a Cancer-Stricken Fan’s Dream Come True

mileytheclimb

Sometimes a story just needs to be spread around…no snarky jokes, no sarcasm, just a worthwhile report on a very cool thing.

Miley Cyrus made a dream come true for one of her fans in Louisiana on Tuesday. According to Houma Today, 5-year-old Madison Boudreaux (who suffers from osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer), got the chance to meet her idol Miley inside the New Orleans Arena, where the teen pop sensation was set to perform.

“Once we got to our seats, she said, ‘it was more fun than Disney World,’” Madison’s mother Jaime told Houma Today. Jaime also said that 5-year-old Madison was too awestruck to speak during the encounter.

Miley Cyrus to Appear in ‘Sex and the City Sequel’

mileysarah

It looks like Miley Cyrus is going to appear in the next Sex and the City film. According to E! Online, “…Cyrus is said to be playing herself in a scene in which she and Samantha Jones hit the same red carpet in the same dress.” Let’s just hope that she doesn’t play the part of Samantha’s protege in the film, or the next season of Hannah Montana could be VERY different (and perhaps far more exciting for Hannah’s on-again/off-again boyfriend Jake Ryan). Another interesting rumor, courtesy of Wikipedia, is that Miley will appear in a flashback scene as a young Carrie (the character played by Sarah Jessica Parker). At first I thought, are you serious? But then I thought, that might actually work (see above photo).

But how does her Christian, old school Tennessee father Billy Ray feel about his little girl’s appearance in the upcoming grown-up film? No word on that yet, but to be fair, Billy Ray himself appeared in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive a few years back, which was FAR from being a family film, so if anything he should just be proud that the apple doesn’t fall from the tree. Perhaps a more interesting question would be: how does Disney feel? The company is known for going to great lengths to uphold the wholesome image of its young starlets (which most often proves to be a losing battle).

Filming for the Sex and the City sequel began in September, and is slated to continue through the end of 2009.

Move Over, Miley…Billy Ray Cyrus May be the Next Hip-Hop Star

So by now you have probably heard the tragic news: Miley Cyrus is no longer on Twitter. After amassing more than 2 million followers, she decided to ditch the popular social networking tool. There has been a lot of speculation as to ‘why’ she said goodbye to the Twittersphere, some wondering if her boyfriend even demanded that she do it. But Miley had her own reasons, which she outlined quite eloquently in an original rap posted on YouTube. If you haven’t seen it, here it is:

But now, it seems that Miley’s TV-and-real-life dad Billy Ray Cyrus (known for such classic hits as Achy Breaky Heart and…Achy Breaky Heart), has taken to the Internet with a rap of his own! Well, not really…it’s actually Jimmy Fallon, but it’s still pretty priceless. Check it out:
