Disney/Pixar’s “Up” is a UK Hit

Disney/Pixar’s “Up” was a massive hit in the United States over the summer, and now our friends across the pond are finally getting their chance to experience this instant classic.

According to Reuters India:

Disney-Pixar’s “Up,” fresh from its major chart success in America, topped the UK box office over the weekend with one of the biggest opening takes of the year, according to Screen International on Tuesday.

The animated story of a cranky old man on a balloon-powered adventure made 6.4 million pounds and dwarfed comedy horror movie “Zombieland” which came in at No. 2 with ticket sales of 1.2 million pounds.

As those in the U.S. may recall, Up was one of the summer’s most critically-acclaimed films, and currently holds a fresh rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes (a number almost unheard of on RT). For those who haven’t seen it, shame on you. It’s a smash hit for a reason: superbly funny and profoundly moving at the same time, featuring Pixar’s best animation to date and a story that really captures the human experience.

Here in the states, the film is set to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray November 10th, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll have the opportunity soon enough (though sadly you’ll have to miss out on the big screen experience).

Disney Unveils Toy Story 3 Trailer

woody

The movie doesn’t come out until next summer, but Disney/Pixar has officially unveiled the first official, full-length trailer for the highly-anticipated Toy Story 3.

According to IMDB: “Woody, Buzz, and the rest of their toy-box friends are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, departs for college.”

Judging from the trailer, it seems like all of the classic Toy Story elements are in play: wacky plastic heroes, sick digital animation, cheesy Randy Newman songs…I’m sure this will not disappoint. Also returning are stars Tim Allen (Buzz) and Tom Hanks (Woody), as well as an impressive ensemble that includes Michael Keaton and Whoopi Goldberg.

The film opens July 18th, 2010.
