Jake Gyllenhall tears it up in Disney’s upcoming feature “The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” and I must say the film looks very intense indeed. You’ll have to wait until May 23rd to see it, but judging from this footage, it should definitely be a nice way to kick off the 2010 summer movie season.
I’m not sure if the main character fights Jafar and rescues Jasmine in this movie, but then again, I’m also not really sure that Jake Gyllenhall is actually Persian. I think I’ll just shut up now and eagerly await the release of this film.
Looks like the long-rumored Prince of Persia movie is finally becoming a foreseeable reality. Disney has recruited Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean series) and Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) to bring the popular video game series to life in “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” For those unfamiliar with the Prince of Persia saga (like myself, admittedly), I gather that we’re basically looking at The Legend of Zelda meets Aladdin, but with more explosions (explosions = good).
IGN (of gamer nerd fame) has put together sort of a review/teaser trailer for the film, which you can check out above. There are definitely some parallels with Pirates of the Caribbean, which is very nice, but hopefully this film will feature more than just sick action sequences and a killer soundtrack…if it’s truly good, it will have an engaging plot and likeable characters…and if it’s really, really good, it will have showstopping musical numbers where desert princes dance arm-in-arm along the sand with tap-dancing camels and brass accompaniment.
